I feel for you and your nephew's situation, but you both have the support and love of family members who are not controlled by the cult.

There will be no fifth generation of jw’s in my family.
by longgone ini’m happy to say that, yet as always with the wts there is a price to be paid.
i’ll explain how this is working out.there’s a new development in the family that’s making the final break possible, and sadly is where the penalty for leaving is going to happen.
only one person of all the jw family history is left that could start a fifth, he’s my nephew.

Brexit - A slow motion train wreck in the making
by The Fall Guy inthere's no chance of a good deal.
so whether it's a bad deal or no deal, both 'leavers' and 'remainers' will be screaming at the disastrous outcome.
neither side can or will get all that they thought they were voting for.. if another eu in/out vote was taken, expect to see a lot of people change sides.. two points which raise questions imo:.

Two points which raise questions IMO:
1) If no hard border is established between Eire & NI, the UK is effectively closing the front door to Europe at Dover, but is leaving the back door wide open in Ireland. (so much for Brexiteers wanting to restrict immigration from the EU)
2) The Scottish government is now talking about holding yet another referendum on independence, and if successful, would apply to join the EU as an "independent nation."
Basically, the Scottish National Party will swap the alleged chains of the Westminster parliament for the chains of the Brussels parliament. Independence???

What happened to the "New World Order"?
by stuckinarut2 inso as a child and youth growing up as a witness, (i'm 43 now) we often heard the expression "new world order".. the society just doesnt use that expression anymore.
so what was the reasoning behind them amending that expression?.

These are the latest published references to the org's NWO which I could find on the CD ROM.
w66 12/1 p. 730 - and the dawning of a righteous new day in which a new world order under the peaceful kingdom of Christ will be ushered in to rule everlastingly.
g73 10/8 p. 22 - Yet there will be survivors of that collision, and these will take up life in a new world order.

Come in Sit down Pull up a chair Speak the truth when you tell me your cares;
Don't be afraid to talk to your brother Get a hold of yourself an' dry up your tears
We'll start at the start And end at the end You'll find that your mind might possibly mend
I'm sure I can help you 'cos you can't help yourself Have you fallen in love again
Have you fallen in love again ?
Sister Jane You've gone and changed your name You gotta get out soon
Before you go insane Before the town starts talkin' And they see you out walkin'
It sure does seem a shame Yes It sure does seem a shame Sister Jane
You've gone and changed your name And I suggest you catch The twelve forty five 'plane
Before the fam'ly finds out Just what you've done And holds you at the point of a gun
And that ain't gonna be much fun Sister Jane
We'll talk of the future We'll talk of the past The odds were against you it never could last
You can't think opinions will change overnight When you know what you've done just ain't right
You don't mean to tell me you've finally done it You played at the game and you thought you had won it
And now that you find that you're way out of line Well Some people call it a crime,
Yeah you really have done it this time
Sister Jane You've gone and changed your name You gotta get out soon... Sister Jane
You told me the truth You opened your mind Said I would listen And help you unwind
My dear Sister Jane you've caused nothing but pain And I really must tell you this time
I knew all along you had to go wrong In this kind of town you could never belong
I'm sorry for you And I'm sorry for me This is the way it should end 'cos you've fallen in love again

Is "Independent Thinking" good or bad???
by The Fall Guy inone source describes independent thinking this way:.
good - w57 8/1 p. 469 par.
good - w72 3/15 p. 170 par.

One source describes independent thinking this way:
"One of the primary goals of an educator should be to help students develop the desire and ability to think on their own. Independent thinking is the desire of a person to convince oneself that the information being presented is true or reasonable. An instructor will know that he or she has been successful in fostering independent thinking when his or her class starts asking lots of questions."
https://www.nde-ed.org/TeachingResources/ClassroomTips/independent_thinking.htm
Successive "faithful slaves" apparently couldn't agree on whether it was good or bad:
GOOD - w57 8/1 p. 469 par. 7 - Minds work, but in the way that a horse is led. Independent thinking is difficult, unpopular and even suspect.
GOOD - w58 8/1 p. 460 - To ask a sound religious question is a demonstration of lack of faith in God and the church, according to the clergy. As a result, the Irish people do very little independent thinking. They are victims of the clergy and fear.
BAD - w62 9/1 p. 524 par. 22 - The student must express himself as he understands the truth. He cannot have independent thinking.
GOOD - w72 3/15 p. 170 par. 7 - Man possesses a mind and a heart, not controlled automatically by instinct, but capable of independent thinking and reasoning, making plans and decisions, exercising a free will.
BAD - w83 1/15 p. 22 par. 21 - How is such independent thinking manifested? A common way is by questioning the counsel that is provided by God’s visible organization.
REALLY BAD - w83 1/15 p. 27 pars. 19-20 - This is independent thinking. Why is it so dangerous? Such thinking is an evidence of pride. If we get to thinking that we know better than the organization, we should ask ourselves: “Where did we learn Bible truth in the first place? Would we know the way of the truth if it had not been for guidance from the organization? Really, can we get along without the direction of God’s organization?” No, we cannot!
BAD - w87 11/1 p. 19 par. 15 - But inside, they [apostates] are spiritually unclean, having given in to prideful, independent thinking.
Is it any surprise that the WTBTS/CCoJW demonizes higher education?

It's a shame isn't it?
by freddo in... that this forum, which is such an amazing resource for those needing support for their journey from watchtower's clutches has an increasingly present representation of unreasoning politically charged loudmouths..

LUHE - I think the point being made by the OP is that the "safe haven" is often used by some to attack and shout down people with different beliefs. Very unfriendly.

by The Fall Guy in1) throughout the whole article jw's were being told not to believe or pass on everything they hear, but to examine the information to prove whether it was true or not.. 2) throughout the whole article jw's were being told not to listen to or look into any information or challenges which sounded negative about the org.. mind-numbed jw's will be leaving their kh's today wondering, "do i try and prove to myself and others that that what has been said is definitely a lie, (1 timothy 4:1; 1 peter 3:15;1 john 4:1) or do i totally ignore it and believe everything the org tells me is true?

Venting, Wow, found out just how indoctrinated my wife is
by goingthruthemotions injust had to share this, tonight we had a heated conversation about the religion.
she said everything they teach is 100% true and any mistakes are cleaned up and corrected, that the payouts for the child abuse is not an issue even if its taken from donations.
because, she believe 100% the org knows what its doing.

GTTM - "She said everything they teach is 100% true."
LOL!!! Didn't we all think that at one time?
You have a PM containing various JW "truths" versus the Bible which you can ask her to prove/defend.
I'd love to be a fly on your wall.

Kingdom Hall Closures In Canada.
by Lost in the fog inone of our friends in canada posted the following message to their circle of friends.
"in our meeting last night, the coordinator read a letter from the canadian branch about the reorganized territories.
all the territories in the fraser valley from hope to vancouver, about a hundred miles in all, have been reorganized to create larger congregations and improve the use of kingdom halls.

JW's in the U.S.A. & Canada may be prepared to regularly drive many miles to get to a reassigned KH, but I'm pretty certain that countless UK JW's would regularly avoid meetings if they were forced to do the same.
